We’ve got an amazing opportunity coming up for anybody looking to progress their instructing skills in skiing, snowboarding and terrain park. Sasquatch Mountain will be offering the CSIA Ski Level 1 & 2 Courses, the CASI Snowboard Park Course, and the CASI Snowboard Level 1 & 2 Courses for anybody who is interested.

CSIA Ski Level 1 Course

February 9th-11th, 2021 & March 8th-10th, 2021

This is the perfect chance to discover a new passion for your favourite sport, and pass that passion along to others. The Level 1 Course is a 3-day introduction to ski teaching, CSIA technique and methodology, and the role of teaching within the ski industry. It combines the basics of practical ski teaching methods, technical understanding and development of guest service skills, specifically addressing children’s riding.

Candidates will receive coaching on their skiing, teaching and people skills with the goal of reaching the specific course standards. They will also receive suggestions and strategies for long-term development. The successful candidate is certified to teach learners up to intermediate skill level. Level 1 is a prerequisite for Level 2.

CSIA Ski Level 2 Course

March 15th-19th, 2021 with exams March 22nd-24th, 2021

This course is split into two parts – the Skier Development Course and the Teacher Development Course.

The CSIA Level 2 Skier Development Course is designed to develop Participants skiing skills to a consolidated level of performance on groomed and ungroomed Blue terrain in a variety of turn types. Participants will benefit from a solid two days of collaborative ski improvement through exploration of: CSIA Technical Concepts and Skills Framework, Long term development strategies, and Level 2 Ski Exam Performance Criteria.

The two-day Level 2 Teacher Development Course is designed to give you the opportunity to develop and practice teaching approaches and strategies that address a broader range of student skill levels. With guidance from your Course Conductor, you will explore teaching with COVID-19 protocols in mind, Collaborative Teaching, Assessment and Development using CSIA Technical Concepts, and Level 2 Teach Exam Performance Criteria

Practice teaching opportunities within your group will help you try new ideas, gain insight into the effectiveness of your approach and prepare you for the Level 2 Exam.

CASI Snowboard Park Course

February 10th-11th, 2021 & March 1st-2nd, 2021

The CASI Park Instructor certification course is open to members with a minimum Level 1 Instructor Certification. Candidates on the course will spend time exploring snowboarding technique and teaching methods as they relate to introductory terrain park and freestyle snowboarding.

The Park Instructor course is an introductory course, designed to give successful candidates the skills necessary to introduce students to the terrain park and freestyle snowboarding safely. Progression-based teaching methods, understanding of basic freestyle techniques, as well as lesson planning and effective communication skills will be addressed. The successful candidate is certified to take students into freestyle terrain, and teach introductory / basic maneuvers on beginner terrain park features.

CASI Snowboard Level 1 Course

March 3rd-5th, 2021

The CASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor certification course is open to strong intermediate snowboarders, aged 15 years and older. Candidates on the Level 1 Course will spend time exploring snowboarding technique and teaching methods across a variety of venues, both on-snow (up to and including intermediate terrain) and during indoor presentations.

The CASI Level 1 course is an introductory course, designed to give successful candidates the skills necessary to begin their role as a new instructor in the industry. Beginner teaching methods, understanding of basic snowboard technique, as well as lesson planning and effective communication skills will be addressed.

Candidates will receive coaching on their snowboarding, as well as feedback on their teaching skills, with the goal of reaching the Level 1 standard in both of these areas. They will also receive suggestions and strategies for long-term development. The successful candidate is certified to teach beginner snowboarders up to the Novice Turn level.

CASI Snowboard Level 2 Course

February 22nd-25th, 2021

The CASI Level 2 Instructor certification is for any snowboarder that has passed the Level 1 certification, and has an interest in teaching more experienced snowboarders. The goal of the Level 2 course is to develop a skills-based teaching approach for intermediate snowboarding, as well as an understanding of CASI technique and methodology, and the role of snowboard teaching within the industry. It combines practical snowboard teaching methods, technical understanding and development, as well as development of guest interaction and technical analysis skills.

CASI Snowboard Level 3 Course

March 29th – April 2nd, 2021

You should take this course if you are a Level 2 Instructor, along with the Park 1 Instructor certification and plenty of teaching experience, including beginner to intermediate students in a variety of situations. You should love to teach, and have a desire to take your teaching skills to new areas of the mountain – groomed terrain, freeride terrain, and the terrain park. You should be confident and comfortable demonstrating advanced riding skills in corresponding terrain, and have an interest in learning to train fellow instructors.

**Courses take place regardless of weather conditions. The only time a course might be cancelled is in the event of a lack of participants or when the hill is closed for an extended period of time during the course due to extreme weather conditions (lack of snow, severe snow storms, lightning storms, intense high winds, etc.). Should the CSIA/CASI cancel a course, you will be contacted by the national office and, if applicable, a full refund will be issued.
