Ski & Snowboard Instructors

Are you looking for a dynamic career in the Tourism/Ski Industry? Are you passionate about providing amazing customer service? We are currently accepting applications for next winter season. Responsibilities:

  • Plan & teach ski and/or snowboard lessons to our guests
  • Knowledgeable of all snow school products offered by SMR
  • Guide snowshoe treks
  • Ensure all lesson products are delivered in a fun and safe environment
  • Responsible for the safety of each guest within the instructor’s care
  • Daily set-up and tear down of the lesson area
  • Knowledgeable of and inform guests of the Alpine Responsibility Code
  • Assist other departments as required

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Level 1 with CSIA, CASI or equivalent
  • Professional at all times
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Previous teaching experience an asset

Introducing our new Apprentice Instructor Program for 2023/24 at Sasquatch Mountain Resort! This program is designed to segue new and seasoned snow enthusiasts start a career in ski and snowboard instructing.

We’re currently accepting applications!

If you want to experience life on a ski resort, live in the mountains and take the first steps to being a qualified snowschool instructor, the apprenticeship program could be for you.

Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old by December 1, 2023.

This program is an 8-week commitment with 2.0 hours (daily or in total?) of dedicated on-snow training.

Throughout the program you will shadow and assist qualified instructors during lessons to gain knowledge and experience that will enrich your personal development as an instructor.

2 hours of on-snow training will be held every Saturday evening from 5pm-7pm. Training focuses on improving skiing or riding technique to meet the Canadian Ski Instructor’s Alliance (CSIA) and Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructor’s (CASI) level 1 standards. There will also be coaching provided to advance  teaching and assessment skills required to become a proficient instructor.

Program participants will have the opportunity to complete their required secondary school volunteer hours working with our group and multi-week programs on weekends.

PROGRAM PREREQUISITES

  • You are a parallel skier and/or comfortably linking snowboard turns
  • You enjoy being around children between the ages of 6-15 years old
  • You can attend a virtual or face-to-face with the Snow School manager or supervisor
  • You are punctual and possess excellent communications skills
  • You can commit to a minimum of 3 days volunteering over Christmas holidays (days chosen are optional)
  • You can commit to training throughout the season on a Friday or Saturday (see dates listed below)

SMR’s goal for this program is to have a 100% certification rate for CSIA and CASI program participants. To pass, participants must demonstrate adequate progression in their skiing/riding and teaching skills.

Exam booking and fees will NOT be covered by Sasquatch Mountain Resort and will be at your discretion to book.

Our expectation is that the exam is booked prior to attending your first day as an apprentice.

Snowboard Apprentice: 6 spots

Cost for the Apprentice Instructor Program: $199

Job Summary

As a part of our Heavy Duty Mechanic team, you are responsible for routine maintenance of equipment ensuring there performance, safety and longevity is maintained. You are a front-line staff member, problem solving and providing excellent customer service to create a Fantastic Family Fun experience.

Job Specifications

  • Wage: based on experience and tickets
  • Shift & Schedule Availability: Full Time – Working between 8-10 hours/day. Weekends and Holidays
  • Skill Level – Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanics ticket

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure performance, safety and longevity of the equipment
  • Dismantle components to examine for excessive wear or damage
  • Repair, replace, clean, and lubricate parts as necessary
  • Maintain and calibrate vehicle electrical systems
  • Monitor hydraulic systems for fluid leaks, ruptured hoses, worn gaskets, etc and calibrate or replace components when necessary
  • Maintain an open and trustworthy relationship with respect to communication amongst staff and the Maintenance Manager
  • Initiate, manage and delegate daily work assignments with minimal supervision
  • Maintain records of work completed and report on all shop related activities
  • Perform all maintenance and repair tasks in a cost-effective and fiscally responsible manner
  • Assist the Outdoor Operations Manager with the preparation of annual budget for vehicle maintenance
  • Ensure safety and good housekeeping practices
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
  • Practice safe work procedures
  • Maintain a professional and respectable appearance
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

  • Must be in possession of a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic’s ticket
  • Minimum 3 years experience working in a heavy duty mechanics role, asset if within the ski industry
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with Heavy Industrial Equipment (excavators, loaders, skid steers etc.)
  • Previous experience working with Prinot snow cats and snowmobiles (key asset)
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics
  • Must hold a current valid driver’s license
  • Previous experience repairing undercarriage and track assemblies
  • Previous experience repairing components such as frames and implements
  • Must be able to make quick decisions/use considerable judgement regarding safety as well as multitask and anticipate issues
  • Must be able stand outside in a mountain environment for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed
  • Must be willing to perform alternate functions from time to time, both within and outside of assigned area, particularly during peak periods such as holiday weekends
  • Must be adaptable, have problem solving skills, and be a team player across all departments
  • Family Oriented Resort so working with large groups, families of all ages is required
  • Stress Management, Patient, and have great Time Management Skills
  • Cross Department Support and Snow Removal is required from all positions at SMR
